For nearly 25 years, I've been helping my wife, Olivia Golden, build her business in the horse world. Over that time we have rented, shared, cleaned, redone, and eventually designed and built a barn of our own. Personally experiencing what makes our life easier, is when you come across a product that has already solved problems you didn't know you had. I didn't know I needed a back-lit bit cabinet until I saw the concept!
That passion for improvement led to Matt’s Fancy Barn Stuff, where my lifelong woodworking hobby became a full-fledged workshop focused on building better barn furniture. From handcrafted saddle stands to functional yet refined storage pieces, every design was shaped by knowing what happens in a horse barn. And the pursuit of doing things more efficiently, more beautifully, and more durably. Box store items last seasons, not years. I watch furniture become "disposable".
Building and installing across the East Coast, I quickly saw there is no solution for horse world. When you build or refit a barn, every owner needs have the conversation with their builder or cabinet maker, trying to explain what needs to be stored. Usually what happens is trying to make standard cabinets fit unique needs. I am excited to be able to have a line of cabinets and furniture totally customizable to meet any barns needs. Not many people understand how to build barn items and have it last longer that your first pony. Each project, each tack room or feed room or laundry room taught us something new about how people use their barns; what works, what wears out, and what truly lasts. And how to make it better.
Over time, it became clear that the demand was bigger than any one person could fill. Barn owners, designers, and builders want cabinetry that could bring the same craftsmanship and finish to space that you would experience at home. Cabinetry built to perform in the demanding environment of a barn, while still offering the elegance of fine furniture.
That’s how Tack Room Cabinetry was started. Backed by a national cabinet manufacturer with more than 50 years of experience, we’ve created a purpose-built line of cabinetry specifically designed for equestrian facilities. . Each piece is built in Pennsylvania using an entirely U.S. supply chain and the same meticulous attention to detail that shaped our earliest handmade work.
My background has taught me the importance of choosing materials, finishes, and hardware that stand up to time, moisture, and daily use...lessons learned through operating our own barn for the last 20 years. By continuing to refine and improve how things are built, I’ve developed a practical expertise that anyone designing or upgrading an equestrian space can draw on.
